Calendar Invite WON'T STOP

I've had a Calendar event (used 'Personal' category (blue)) in for a while now (about a month) and ever since I keep getting the invite for it in my Calendar.
The invite comes via a 'Work' category (orangish).
I sent the invitation to my wife who accepted but it's continually been inviting ME, the creator of the event.
Screenshot attached of what it looks like and another showing the event already in my calendar and the space next to it for the pending 'invitation'.
How do I fix this annoying issue?

Also, my wife keeps getting the invite and though she accepts it, it keeps going to her.

Hi,

I've experienced this issue - I think, if I've understood your description correctly - and I eventually determined that it happens when you have read & write access to a calendar you've shared, and the invitation is sent to someone who's sharing that calendar.

So, in effect - Calendar is sending your invitation to your wife (when you create the event and invite her to it), and the event is showing up on the calendar that you are sharing with your wife. Calendar is then interpreting that as an event that you need to accept too. Possibly.
