Calendar Items Deleting

My wife's new iPhone 12 Pro, with iOS 14.3 keeps coming up with a blank Calendar, and any entries she puts in it, will be gone a few days later. It is synced via iCloud to her MacBook Pro (that is still on Catalina, as it's a 2012 version). Any thoughts as to why the items disappear?

What is the timeframe the sync settings on both devices are set to?

If she adds an entry from the MBP to the iPhone 12 Pro does it 1) show on the iPhone 12 Pro? and 2) Does the the entry show and disappear or does it stay on the iPhone if added from the MBP?

It sounds like it could be a settings issue.
