I believe calendar appointments only show up a day or two ahead of time.

yup, only 24 hours in advance. makes it pretty useless, especially to a business user.

can't you go to settings>mail, contact, calender>default alert times and adjust there?

Kind of. This just automatically sets the alerts for you.

If you set an alert, they will show up farther than 24 hours in advance (2 days, or 7 days with a full-day event) but only once that new notification/alert goes off.

This can still be done without changing the default settings though.

That's the problem. It would be nice if the notification center and alert were handled separately. So you could set an alert for 15 minutes in advance but have the entry appear 2 days, 3 days , 1 week, etc in the notification center.

Just something that makes the notification center for calendar and reminders more useful without an alert going off.
