hi all,

I regularly miss reminders and calendar notifications. Are there any apps that connect to the apple reminder and apple calendars, that provide persistent notifications (similar to the way Due.app gives notifications). I would like to see a reminder on my screen, that stays on the screen until dismissed, and preferably her option to set multiple reminders.
Is there an app that does this?

Realistically most 3rd party calendar apps will have typical notifications/alerts that stay until dismissed (or the app is opened). Many don't really include reminders though. You can try some like Calendars or Fantastical for example.

Hi c dm. I've downloaded fantastical, but unfortunately it doesn't have persistent reminders. If I click the home button the reminder is dismissed, or if the phone is locked, the reminders don't show as alerts.

The due style of nagging notifications is brilliant.

What exactly do you mean by persistent reminders? The notifications that come in for an app stay on the lock screen until you see them or unlock the phone, then they would be present in the notification center as well as via badge on the app icon (assuming you have those enabled). You can also have them set up as alerts which would show up on the screen and require you to take some action (or dismiss them) before you can continue.

Hi C DM

What i wish to have are notifications that are not easily missed, e.g. vibrates and the user must dismiss. I find that the best app that does this is Due. Or maybe notifications as obvious as SMS alerts.

I have tested Fantastical, and notifications for events while locked just show on lock scree, if the phone is in my pocket for hours, that is no use. Also, if i quickly unlock the phone without checking lock screen, that notification is missed.

Well, again, the notification isn't missed as it's still there in notification center and/or as a badge on the app icon. It sounds like what you are looking for are basically (almost endlessly) repeating alerts. You can potentially set up multiple alerts for events/reminders, but even those would have a limit basically. I'm not sure how Due does it. And SMS alerts are basically just regular alerts, you can just set them up to repeat a number of times (but even there there's a limit to basically a few times before those stop).

It's called CalAlarm... It only works for calendar, not reminders, but works great. They have a feature called Nag where it keeps bothering you how ever you set it to nag you.

Google calendars can have 5 default notifications for each new event...set at the web portal.
Hi Brian, its not the number of notifications, its how obvious they are to me.

I am pretty sure when i was a blackberry user (many moons ago), that calendar notifications appeared on the screen, and required a specific dismissal. I would like similar behaviour with iOS calendar notifications.

DMillar, I shall give that app ago.

iOS has support for some of that, but not all of it. If you set calendar/reminder notifications to come as alerts, then those will come up as you are using the phone and you would have to take an action on them before you can continue, in locked state they will just show up on the lock screen and stay there where you can see them before you unlock, and after unlocking you can see the notifications in Notification Center and as badges on the app icon (assuming those are enabled).

It’s the notifications in lock state that i consider to be poor, i find them so easy to miss, especially as i have a lot of apps giving me (relatively unimportant) notifications.

DMillar - i have downloaded that app, and its exactly what i wanted. Just a slight pain that i have to open the app for it to sync the calendar, but its notifications are un-ignorable!

Great news... What I found is if you only use that calendar, you don't have to continue to sync it by opening the iOS calendar. Unless you're using Siri or something else that accesses your main calendar, you won't need to continue to do that. Just make sure you add to the iOS calendar by way of the CalAlarm app

The problem is that i quite like Fantastical, particularly its natural language input...

It's part of the reason why I disable a lot of lock screen notifications from things that aren't really important.

I was listening to a recent CANVAS podcast and heard about Due and 2Do which could also be an option for you.
Hi pacorob.

Due is a great app for standalone notifications / reminders. But it doesn't integrate with calendar.

I have also recently tried 2Do (I'm a former things user) and really like it, but it doesn't use persistent notifacations.

Since ios 9 I think the stock reminder app has persistent notification.

Once it fires and appears on the lockscreen, it will stay on it until you mark it as "finished" even if you unlock your device in the meantime.

At least it's how it works on my 6S+

Or util you clear its notification from the Notification Center. It's a nice feature as far as "reminding" you.

Hi,

Having recently changed from Android, the fact that notifications in lock screen are not persistent in iOS came as a shock to me. Just as the thread opener, I'm trying to find an app that has persistent notifications (such as reminders) to fully adopt my GTD workflow. Due seems an adequate choice, but before paying the 5 bucks, I'd like to know if anyone uses it like I intend.

In addition, I'd like to know if there's an option to do the same for phone calls, messages (SMS and Whatsapp).

It just seems silly that notifications are cleared from the lockscreen, specially since I almost never get to see it when i click the home button!

Any updates/ new apps to suggest?

Like everyone else here, I'm looking for a calendar & to-do list app with persistent & nagging reminders.

CalAlarm is better than nothing but it doesn't have to-do list options.

2do does nag notifications.

I do not work for Informant 5 but have used it both as a regular user and now as a beta user and found that it is just terrific for Tasks, Reminders and Events. It is very customizible and looks great especially in dark mode. I also believe that it will do want you want. You can create a task and it will appear daily on your calendar until you physically check off that you have completed the task.
