When I add something to my calendar it always defaults to a "Second Alert" which is 15 minutes before the event.
Is there a way to add a new Event and for there to be no second alert at all?

In Settings>Calendar>Default Alert Times I have "Events" set on 15 minutes before.
That should be the only alert but as the way it is the Second Alert always goes on 15 minutes and the regular alert defaults to "At Time Of Event.

Any ideas?

Try unchecking "Time to leave"?
I've tried on my side and when setting an event it only adds one alert, to my desired default time. I have unchecked time to leave (actually it's grayed out cus I didn't allow calendar to have my location). Also thanks for letting me know about this option.
PS: I wish I could add more than 2 alerts. I commonly have to create 2 events for the same thing in order to set more alarms..

Hammerd, thanks for your suggestion.
I have Time To Leave unchecked for the same reasons you have yours unchecked.
Doesn't seem to help. Don't know what this is. Just weird.

When you save an invitation from someone else, the invitation will have an alert set, then calendar adds the default alert to that event, even though it already has one. I hate this behavior.

There's no way I know of besides setting the default to none in calendar preferences but then there's no default alert when you create invitations. I don't understand Apple's logic in the way it's been implemented, especially because it doesn't do this in the iOS calendar.
