I’m looking for a replacement for Calendars 5 by Readdle. They’re discontinuing support for the paid version I have so they can transition customers to the subscription version. I’m not a business customer so I’m not interested in renting a calendar app.

My wish list is a calendar app that shows a month view like a paper calendar with squares for the days so I can see what’s going on each day from the month view. This is the only thing stopping me from using the Apple calendar app. I also want a paid app that’s not mining my data. I know those aren’t mutually exclusive since there are paid apps that mine your data but usually the free ones are guaranteed to do that.

I suspect I won’t have to make this change till the next version of iOS but I would like to start looking now

I use and highly recommend Calendar 366. There is a free lite version so you can try it out and then if you decide, upgrade to the paid app, no subscription.

It has the month view you requested and the developer collects no data From the app.

Here’s the link to the lite version.

Will ditto Calendar 366. Has been my calendar app on i*OS since Fantastical went subscription.

Maybe not as polished as Readdle’s, but dev does update/fix/improve things on a pretty regular schedule.

The "lite" version has a widget which only shows "upcoming" events, and ignores any event which is currently happening. I'm assuming the paid version is the same.

This is the same as the stock Apple widget, and I don't like it. It seems I'm about the only person who cares :)

So I'm using Readdle Calendars (free) which shows current events. Even better, the 4x2 widget has a nice coloured bar across the top to match the relevant calendar colour. i like this a lot. It fits my usage perfectly.

I have the paid version. Long press on the widget and tap edit widget. Turn on Started events. I added an event that started 1 1/2 hours before the current time and ends 3 1/2 hours from now. It appears in the widget that shows appointments.

It looks like the 366 app (either version) does not include Mac operation, which is not acceptable. Full interoperation iOS/iPadOS/WatchOS <--> MacOS is critical IMO. Otherwise it looks ideal.

Since 366 uses iCloud Calendar and Reminders, can stick with stock Mac apps or any other app that talks iCloud.

I managed to keep my grandfathered version of Fantastical on Mac (iOS update process failed to preserve grandfathered version of that, hence move to 366) and use that for desktop and everything syncs just fine between everything.

I'm giving 366 a go thanks to @iltwtv who pointed out that it can show current events in its widgets.

I've only had it for a day, but so far I like it. I miss the coloured bar across the widget for current events that Readdle Calendars (free) gives, but I'm liking the "agenda" view. Reminds me of the WeekCal app I paid for many years ago when it was just £2.

On my Mac, as @NoBoMac says, I just use the stock app as I use iCloud calendars. I have the little app itsycal in my menu-bar.
