I haven't seen this one before and would like any advice to correct.

Running iOS18.0.1 on an iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPad 6th Gen.

When I open Calendar on either device, it starts with the last date that I viewed when I closed the app. How do I get it to start with the current date when I open the app? Here is an example from today. Also, toggling on/off the Week View Starts Today has no affect.

I always open Calendar by clicking on my 4x2 (or 2x4 or "medium") widget, which makes it open to today.

You're right - when opening the app directly (app switcher, search or whatever) it opens to the date I had last looked at. I don't mind clicking "today" bottom left, but it does seem like it'd be useful that wasn't necessary.

But can see why it is, seeing how iOS has worked from the start.

Looking at a date X days out, leave Calendar to bring up some other app to get some information, then hop back to Calendar. In this situation, probably want to stay on other date as looking to edit/add something to the calendar. Now it’s a “pain” to go back to date one was working with.

Yes, probably needs a switch like “open on last viewed” to enable desired behaviour.
