I calibrated my battery on my new Macbook Pro 1,83 exactly according to instructions, even let it sit in sleep overnight after it ran out before recharging.

Before I got almost 4 hours and way over 3 with light use and display at 50%. Now I get way less than 3 with lower settings, even tried with just one core running.

Any idea what is going on? Anyone else had the same problem?
I will never calibrate a new battery again until I see an issue with it!

Never heard of that

Never heard of that but it did happen with one of my friends pc laptops but if it gets to where its getting 50% less capacity than it should an apple store will replace it for you.

Dare I say it, maybe calibrate it again. :)

Calibration isn't directly about getting you longer battery life but rather it's about giving the computer a more accurate idea of how much charge the battery can contain.

This prevents overcharging, which will destroy a battery pronto. :(

every now and then, when i disconnect the macbook from the power source (in general, its plugged in for ripping dvds to mp4 ala handbrake), i get some crazy number for estimated usage, then 4 minutes later get a reasonable one. the other day it said 504 hours. I WISH. during light use (iTunes/deerpark firefox/adium) i get 3.5 hours. thats acceptable to me, as my dads dell gets 2 hours max, and my boss's toshiba (which is a nice pc laptop) gets 2.5

its an estimate of batt. power, it could be more, it could be less, my guess is the estimate is on the conservative side.

are you sure you calibrated the battery properly? as far as i understand the procedure, you're supposed to run the computer until it goes to sleep and then leave it sleeping for at least five hours before plugging it back into the AC. in the past i'd always omitted that last step because i didn't know about it. of course, that was up until last week. and look what happened... (granted, i'm on a g4 pbook. but still, the principle is the same).

Leaving it for five hours is just to flatten it that little bit more. It's not really essential. Plugging it in as soon as it has fallen asleep should suffice. :)

Of course, leaving it five hours every ten or so calibrations (monthly) mightn't be such a bad idea.

After a fresh calibration, the battery will slowly gain more capacity over the next few weeks time. It can gain as much as 150+ mAhrs. During the next few weeks do nothing special. You can leave it charging most of the time or do frequent short charges after its lost anywhere from 10 to 70% of its capacity. Do not do another calibration. Just be patient.
