Hello all!

newmacbook and in love. as far as loving a computer can go...

calibarting the battery, the instructions read: bring to full charge, keep there for two hours, let drain to no charge during use, let sleep for five hours. --to let the battery rest. and then bring to full charge again....

... well i can't bare to be away for five hours... can't i just take the battery out and run off the cord? i can't think of any reason why not. and am a little surprised why it wouldn't say so in the manual...

thanks,
r.

I have never heard of letting it stay asleep for five hours, is that what it said in the manual? If it didn't, you don't need to. If it did, then you need to leave the batter in and just let it sleep because sleep draws a little bit of power which will be important in calibrating the batter. What does the manual say?

Charge it to full capacity, unplug it and use it until it falls asleep on it's own. Let it sleep for an hour or so, and then plug it in and let it charge until full.

Hey, that is a good point...I never thought to just take the battery out. There is no reason that the computer needs to be completely turned off when the battery is resting for the five hours as stated in the instructions.

And it doesn't say to let the computer sleep, it says wait until you see the warning, save your work, and then turn the computer off. So, for whoever said that when the computer is asleep it is still pulling power from the battery, you are correct in saying that, but that is not a step in the process as described by Apple.

I am letting my battery run down now, and then I will just pull out the battery once the computer goes into a forced sleep state.

like ya....

... my battery happily sleeps, my computer happily runs....
