Call blocking tricks

Does anyone know any call blocking tricks? I'm hesitant to download a 3rd party app for blocking but I've been getting a lot of spoof calls lately.

In iPhone settings there is a block caller option and I'm wondering.... if I set up a contact with just my area code and first 3 numbers will it recognize any caller with that prefix as that contact?

example:
gmhag: (912)-678-xxxx
Set up contact as "gmhag spoof": (912)-678 [Block]

912-678-0001
912-678-0002
912-678-0003

If I get called by any number like these will it register it as "gmhag spoof" and therefore could block them all this way?

I just set up the contact to test it but sometimes I get multiple a day and sometimes I don't get one for weeks.

It is the only blocker I know that has a option to enter prefix to block which other call blocker may have neighbor scam protection by blocking number numbers similar to yours (first 6-digits)

There’s no call blocking tricks unless you want to manually enter each number in the blocked list.

+1 for WideProtect. The dev - @valerii - actively updates the app and is also active in the MR Forums. Likely one of the best $3 purchases I've made in the iTS or I'd be looney with my iPhone ringing with fake calls .

I carry a VZW and an ATTWS iPhone, needing both networks to get my work done. ATTWS's "Call Protect" app helps with controlling spam to a degree, with WideProtect allowing me to block the "same area code" fake crap that just wastes my time...

As Banglazed said, not tricks. Blocking is on a per number basis. Will need to get an app. I'm using Hiya, which has a same exchange as phone block (ie. same first six numbers as cell phone). Extensive database that has kept my phone quiet.

+1, on Hiya. Been using it for a year now.

Is your carrier T-Mobile or AT&T? Both of them offer spam blocking at the carrier level.

If not, or for a superset of the features AT&T (my carrier) offers, I also recommend Hiya. It's the underlying support for the AT&T service (perhaps for T-Mobile, too). And the Hiya app also includes "neighbor spam" blocking, which the native AT&T app does not. (Neighbor spam is when the spammers use spoofed caller-id to be the same as the first six digits as your phone line.)

Some do slip through here and there. Might give WideProtect a try, as well.

I've had pretty good results with the Mr. Number app.

Exchange Blocker is free and will block those same exchange calls. It also whitelists your contacts if they happen to be in the same exchange.

I use Exchange Blocker, Hiya and T-Mobile's scam protection service.

WOW I didn't know this existed. I'm going to recommend this to everyone if it works as expected. I just posted yesterday some of the features I thought should be in iOS 12 and this was one of them. I've installed the app. Thank you! At least 70% of the spam calls I get are from my area code and first three digits of my phone number. Now if only Apple would allow automatic deletion of voicemail based on call blocking lists.

I'm not well versed when it comes to spam phone blocking on iOS. Could you recommend another app that will help make a dent in blocking the remaining ~30%? I've got spam block enabled in T-Mobile. Also, is it possible to block all numbers except from a certain set of whitelisted area codes and 800/888/etc numbers? There aren't many area codes that should be calling me from numbers that aren't already in my address book. And since it still goes to voicemail, it's not like I would miss an important call. Thanks!

Unfortunately I can't recommend some definite other app for spam blocking - I am not using them, because in my country we don't have many spam calls (one per year ). There are many apps, you know, like Hiya, NoMoRoBo etc, but I have never used them.
Also, so far there is no way to block ALL calls except some area codes (with current feature, it's too many numbers to block), the main thing I wish to see in iOS 12 is interception incoming calls on the fly and allow/block them - in this case I will be able to implement what you want )
