Since there is no voice recorder (one of only a couple things I miss from my Treo), I was thinking that visual voicemail would make a good substitute by leaving myself messages, but I can't figure out how to call in from my iPhone to leave myself a message.

The AT& voicemail just puts me right into listening to messages and even at the main menu, there is no option to leave a message for myself... any ideas?

do it with a greeting

only way i've been able to figure is to go to voicemail, choose "greeting," "custom," record your note to yourself. the choose "default" as the outgoing message instead. when you get the chance later to listen to your message to yourself, pay attention as it will only play once.
or... use the iphone to call your home phone!
