As you can see by this thread:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/432722/

There are many users out there who are having issues using the bluetooth chipset to tether there device as a cellular modem. This is not a legality issue as we are paying for the service through our carriers and this function works great on other Macbooks.

The Macbook air has a new bluetooth chipset (Broadcom) where as the older Macbooks and Macbook pro's has a Cambridge chipset.

I am asking that every one send an email to any technical contact that you might have in apple and tell them that you want this issue addressed. I am sure that if we all send them emails we can show them that this is something that cant be overlooked and needs to be addressed immediately. Hopefully is can be resolved with a simple software update or patch.

I have my contact @ apple if you wish send him an email and tell him you to are having issues or would at least like the ability at some point to be able to tether your device.

No offense (even though I know I am going to get flamed) but this is absurd.

The claim of "many" users having bluetooth problems is quite over exaggerated. Quantify the real number. I suggest you honestly do that before you start screaming otherwise you look like an idiot. If you have to over exaggerate to prove your point then you have no point to prove.

Does every smartphone tether with windows properly. I know for a fact not! My Blackjack would not tether with windows; did I start screaming about M$'s problems?

Grow up. There are so many variants of hardware/software/OS when it comes to mobile devices no company can support them all. No where does Apple claim to support all mobile devices for tethering, for that matter do they claim to support any at all?

Sure in a perfect world every device will communicate seamlessly, but we are far from it.

Those that have honestly had QC problems (over heating, uneven case bottoms) deserve to complain. OS QC problems deserve screaming too, but it appears to me that a few malcontents are just fishing now.

Umm I'm quite a tech bimbo so I'm not entirely sure what you mean with the Cambridge or whatever things, but I can't connect my Nokia 6300 to my MBA - even for simple stuff like file sending etc.
I've set up both devices already though - it just won't connect.
Is that the same prob u're having?

The real number of users having an issue? The real number is: everyone who has tried tethering by bluetooth. This seems to be a completely legit issue that deserves Apple's attention. Get up on the wrong side of the bed today or something?

Wow, what a jerk. Reference the other thread there buddy. There are those of us that are having issues and we want them addressed. I have spent over a dozen hours on the phone with various levels of apple support and I have gotten no where. I decided to ASK others who might be having the same issue to contact apple and let them know that there is an issue and we would like them to acknowledge it.

If want to tether your blackjack to your windows laptop and cant do it then it sounds like you are just to lazy to actually read one of the 10000 pages that google found on the subject.

Go trolling some where else buddy.

I do hope Apple resolves this soon. I was in vegas over the weekend and was trying to tether and again no luck. With the MBA's "air" moniker, its kinda careless of Apple to F' this part of the MBA's ability to connect to the internet, anytime, anywhere.

bombarding a single apple employee's personal email is not an appropriate step.
