Sure it's all fun n games, but is using this app (or any others that mess with your phone in similar ways) going to open the door for all kinds of malware/spam etc to infest my phone, and send my number to every telemarketer on the planet??

Thanks!

Don't you have to open an account to use some of the features?

So whatever the service supplier does with your info.....

Don't bother with it. I tried it, basically it works by dialling a premium rate number which acts as a proxy to connect you to the number you want. I tried it, got charged a fortune and when i called out it just showed up as 'unknown' anyway, so I could have just withheld my number and used my free minutes!!

I think you would be fine, but if you sign up and if they want to then yea they can sell your number, etc to people and you could get spammed.

But...
if you really want to do this, then use Spoofapp! It IS ssafe to use and has been talked about on the news, etc and you are sure to be safe and not spammed if you use their service!

And these apps don't spoof/fake the caller ID words! They just spoof/fake the number, not the word part! And the number needs to be 10 digits in length... no less, no more.

If you have any further questions about this subject, then please ask?

Still requires an account and paying for minutes.

I guess to each their own and this is what the OP asked about.

These types of apps are nothing new, they are simply an Asterisk server spoofing CID via VOIP. You dont need to pay for this type of functionality if you build an Asterisk server.

Thanks for the info. I never intended to sign up for anything. I can suffer through the ads and 2-minute call limit.

When you all are talking about being charged for minutes and such, is that just through my AT&T minutes like normal, or are there charges on top of that??

Yea would have to pay for minutes through some other service like spoofcard. If you do that, then you get rid of add, unlimited calling time, record incoming calls, etc. So yea, you use normal minutes on your AT&T bill, plus you'd have to buy credits from some service to use premium features. they don't charge it to your AT&T bill. You would use pay pal or a credit card.
