Caller ID + Name Display

Not sure how else to title this.. I'm not even sure if most people will even know what I'm talking about and even less likely that there is a fix, but who knows..

In Canada, Rogers/Fido offer name display as part of an addon. It's great, except for one small detail.. It shows:

<Caller Name>
<City, Province>

Ultimately, I don't really care about WHERE they're calling from. It'd much rather see the phone number to determine if it's worth answering or not.

By the way this is for calls from numbers which aren't stored in my contacts. It hasn't happened much lately, but I would get spam calls from my own area code and prefix, but it of course only shows some random persons name and location.

It sounds like that is part of their caller ID. If they won't change it, there isn't much you can do.

I understand that, but it's the way the iPhone is displaying it. It's being sent the caller's name and number, and I'm assuming it's using some internal information to say this area code is in city+province. It's just choosing to show me the name and location instead of either name + number + location or just name + number.

The phone is displaying the caller id info the way the way that it is being received, and there isn't any way to change that on the device.

I wouldn't be 100% sure about that though. Here in the UK since iOS9, if I don't have a number stored in my phone, it comes up with the telephone number, and underneath the region in the UK the call is coming from.

I assumed it was to do with the new smarter siri + continuity / whatever, as I was sure it had some 'power' to search through contacts / emails to determine a potential match for a number. This seems like something similar to me.

As I said, the phone displays the caller ID info that it receives. If you have contact info, the phone displays that, if not, it displays the caller id info that it receives from the carrier.

Siri/Apple does not have access to telco caller id info and could not release that info without your permission.......This has nothing to do with Siri or Continuity....

The location is likely stored in the phone. There's no reason why it couldn't have (xxx) xxx = State, Country stored as a local database.

As for the telco data, it's obvious the phone isn't pulling this information somehow and it is being passed by the carrier. What I'm saying is that the phone is being given the name, number, and location. It is choosing to display only 2 of those fields, one of which is useless.
