Calling all Mac Pro 4K Display Users

I'm seriously thinking about getting a 4K display to replace my pair of Apple 24" LED displays... and I'd like to hear from people that have one...

What brand did you buy and why?
What resolution are you running? (Native/Scaled?)
What's the finish like on the screen? (Reflective/Glossy?)
Any things someone considering one should be aware of?
Would you buy the same or different if you had the chance to do it over again?
 
I should be getting the LG 34UM95 34" IPS Panorama UltraWide QHD Monitor 21:9 3440x1440 HDMI DP Thunderbolt around Apr 18th. So will post back after having that connected to nMP 12core, D700, 1TBSSD system.
 
I'll wait until there's a legit "4K" monitor before considering one ;)
 
I bought the 32" Sharp from the Apple Store when I bought my Mac Pro. I love the monitor ... super sharp & bright. It's easy enough to set fonts in most applications to deal with the high resolution ... but it would be great if menu fonts were a bit bigger in OSX (not the monitor's fault).

It was expensive, but I'm happy with the puchase

Thanks, I'm leaning towards this model as well... what's the finish like on the display... matt/glossy/in-between?

I'm coming from glossy Apple displays so I don't want it to be too jarring in that respect.

I gather you're running it at native resolution?
 
1200 views of this thread this evening and only one person here has a 4K display?... Lots of people interested but not yet pulled the trigger?

My order went from 'Shipping in April' to 'it'll be there tomorrow' - nice surprise. Sure enough, I'm one of those 1200 viewing this thread - keen for a new monitor, but sniffing out what's out there at the moment...:)
 
I have a 39" seiki 4k. It runs at 30hz, some people absolutely hate this. I personally don't find it bad. Color accuracy and precision are bad though, but I mainly program and have documentation open on it. I also have dell 27" and 22" ultrasharps at 60hz for fast moving stuff or if I want color accuracy.

I run it at native resolution, but it's about 115ppi so it works well. (~110 on the dells)

It isn't apple glossy, but it is much more reflective than the dells (which are extremely matte).

If you need a lot of information on the screen, it's great. I have no idea what you do though. It was 425 used, and I bought another which I'll be able to use when I move. Rumors are a 60hz panel is on the way later in the year for more money, I don't really care.
 
I'm waiting out the early adopter period on this one. Performance and reliability seem a bit low compared to more mature products.
 
Have the Dell UP3214Q
Running scaled at 3008 x 1692 but is usable even at native resolution, although I do find the scaling a bit easier on my eyes.

Very impressive monitor, doubly surprised because I don't expect the best from dell.
 
I'd say personally stick with your dual 24s you have currently. You won't get a lot of benefit out of 4k in such small sizes. The benefits really start as you keep a really clear crisp picture and its a very large size.

I'm not saying there won't be any benefit at all to you, but the benefits vs the cost for actual 4k at this juncture wouldn't be worth it IMO

Wish I could say I have one, but I'm specifically waiting for a 27" IPS display that I can run in scaled retina mode, or a native retina mode at 60 hz. I don't think anything exists at this size yet.

The 32" models are too large for retina, and too small set to native for me to want to give it a go. Most of the cheaper / smaller options are TT displays, not IPS, and as a designer, I need better color fidelity.

So, I'm on hold until Apple throws their hat in, or a better / smaller display comes out. I'm currently running two Apple 27" displays.

Reply: I too bought the Sharp 32" PN-K321 - 4K Ultra HD IGZO LED Monitor from the Apple Store when I bought my Mac Pro. It's an awesome monitor, which I'd buy again. Only regret....wish it had Apple's design.

When I first got the new Mac Pro running 10.9.2 there were only two choices
1. Best for Display: 3840 x 2160 that gave an outstanding HD picture for video and photos, but I found menus were too small for general use.

2.) I enabled Scaled 1920 x 1080 HiDPI in the terminal which produced sharp picture, which I used for daily use, but felt menus and images were too large for a 32" monitor.

Under OS X 10.9.3 "beta" Apple now will bring official support for 4K Retina at 60Hz and MST; providing the following choices.

Best for Display: 3840 x 2160
Scaled: 3008 x 1692
Scaled: 2560 x 1440
Scaled: 1920 x 1080
Scaled: 1504 x 846

I use 2560 x 1440, which gives me the perfect menu/font and image size (for my old eyes) while producing an excellent clear HD picture. Note: 3008 x 1692 is also very useable for those wanting more screen real estate.

Thanks, but for working on photos, I think an 8Mpix screen would be amazing. It's nearly 4x the pixels I have on one screen now.

Can you comment on the careen finish... Is it matt, glossy, or somewhere in between?
 
I bought the Asus PQ321, because it's a little less than the Sharp.
The picture quality is absolutely impressive!
The Design is definitely ugly; the back looks terrible.

With 10.9.3 and SwitchResX i am using 3200 * 1800.

A lot of more space compared to the 30" ACD used before.

I think it was a good buy
 
I'd consider waiting. You already have two great displays (I also have two of those, and three 27"), but I think Apple hasn't released a 4k Cinema is because they're waiting for a price point on the panels, and for the standards to settle out. There's zero doubt that they will release one, and my thought is that they have good reasons for waiting, so I will too.

I have the Dell UP2414Q.

I use it with nMP. It's a great monitor. It's matte and the anti-glare coating is fairly light so it doesn't have that ugly glitter effect of some other matte monitors.

I am running it at native resolution but I really can't stand the small menus. They are way too tiny. I google "10.9.3" every day for the past few weeks hoping it'd drop and I can enable HiDPI and 60hz mode!

FWIW I do photography/web dev/programming.
