Would At&t provide the credit check code today? I called like last week to get a credit check and passed with no down payment, but I never asked for the code... Could I call and have them run it again and get the code today(thursday)?

Doesn't hurt calling to find out...
If not, actually going into an AT&T store will definitely get you a code.

not trying to be rude, but how bad does someone's credit have to be to get turned down for a cell phone plan? i would assume that as long as you don't have any outstanding collections due you're fine.

I know, even when i was a student, I could easily get credit for my phone,

Now I'm in full time work, and paying my student load etc and just got a Mortgage there surely can be no reason why I wouldn't get Credit

I called yesterday.

The guy was real nice and I got my ban number in about 10 minutes.

I just called the 888 number.

Dont let them run your credit again! That is another inquiry on your report. If they ran your credit in the last 30 days they should be able to give you a code without having to run it again.

I called today (using the number you gave in another thread) and was told that they don't sell the iPhone over the phone (which I was not suggesting), nor do they do credit checks over the phone but I could go to the store and get one today so I'd know before tomorrow.

I called a few days ago and they did it with no hassle.

Just call and say you want to be pre-approved. Don't say why. The number you want is called a BAN number.

When you call that number (888-333-6651) you get a prompt with 3 options: assistance with current account, status on phones purchased over the website, or purchase new service or add a line. I hit 3 for "purchase new service or add a line." None of them are really what I'm looking for but that seemed the closest. Which option did you select? When I got the service rep, I told him I wanted to buy an iPhone tomorrow but wanted to do the credit check now so I'd know whether I was approved. He then told me what I said in my previous post. Maybe I'm calling the wrong number?

I used the instructions posted here: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=3817975#post3817975 (edited, wrong link)

Nope, just tried again (following those instructions) and was told by a different person that they are not doing pre-approvals over the phone, but that I can have one done at the store tomorrow and may be able to get one done at the store tonight.

That sucks. Unless you really have crappy credit, you should be just fine. ;)

I did it 3 days ago over the phone with AT&T and they gave me my BAN number to input during activation.I Guess they're getting tired of doing it now.

I guess. When I called the guy knew all about the iPhone. I even informed him on the activation through iTunes. He didn't know about that.

That's the thing, as far as I know I have no credit history at all. I've never needed a loan or a credit card for anything, so I've never had one. I'll have no problem affording the iPhone, but I'm not going to do it if they make me pay a big deposit. I can deal with a $100-$150 deposit, but much more than that and the whole thing is just getting too expensive and I'd rather spend the money on something else.

I heard that as long as your credit is in the 600 range or higher, you should be fine... so as long as you haven't missed any payments or have tons of debt you should be good.

I guess I'll see tomorrow. As far as I know I don't have a credit score because I've never had a loan or a credit card. I have always paid my utility bills and such on time but from what I hear that doesn't actually go on your credit history, only paying them late does. I suppose the other option would be to have one of my parents cosign or even put the service in their name.

They are almost an exclusive Equifax puller.

Go to www.myfico.com

and you can pull your Equifax fico score, if you want some assurance, or you can just wait.

OR you can try again on the phone. Maybe you will have luck with another CSR.

Is the BAN number the same as the pre-approval code

I was givien a BAN number also. Is that the same as the pre-approval code? I tried explaining to the guy at the AT&T store that I was looking for a specific pre-approval code number and the guy looked at me as if I was speaking jive or something.
