[calling uk students] advice please

Hi, i'm currently in my first year at a sixth form, about to take my AS Levels.

so its getting to the point where i really need to start checking universities. could please give me a bit of advise on what are good bad etc.

my interest is in web design (new technologies such as ajax and flash), graphic design (graphics for websites, and technical drawing), i would also be interested in programming and such. I also am in to business.

Im doing Computing Studies, Business Studies, Maths and Physics at AS level, and will probably continue Computing Studies, Business Studies and Maths into A level. also i'm hoping to get ABBC this year, and then BBB-BBC at A2 level.

thanks in advance, ive looked around and theres a few things which might be my sort of thing but havent really found a course that fits me yet...
 
Different universities have different strengths/weaknesses so some are better than others at certain subjects, my advice would be to go to as many universities as possible, you probably want to go to one that generally makes an offer of around ABB/BBB, i'm slightly surprised that you thing you'll go from ABBC to BBB (I assume the C is Physics ;) ) to BBB, I'd probably (based on this years target grades) expect you to get ABB or maybe even AAB in your A2 levels.

order prospecti (prospectuses) from all the universities you wound even consider. your postman will hate you for the next few weeks but then you'll have stacks of info.

also consider looking at the Times' and Guardian's University league tables but don't put too much faith on these, they're just a guide.

I hope you find this useful, it worked for me; assuming my last modules go alright, i'll be going to Bath to do Mechanical Engineering with French.
 
I do Multimedia Tech. It does those kind of things but not as much depth as I (or you) would like. It does programming, Web design and some other modules. We do web developing in ASP and learn C# and C
 
I am just finishing a degree at the University of Glamorgan in Computing.

I doubt you will ever find a university that will cover exactly what you want.

I have covered a bit of everything over my 4 years, ASP, Java, XML (XSL, DTD, XSLT), XHTML, CSS, PHP, Perl, SQL, JSP, as well as a bit of networking, operating systems and photoshop.

Because there is so many topics to cover you only seem to skim the surface and I have had to tech myself if I want to know any more but it all give you a good starting block, a qualification and a idea of what you like and dont like to do.
 
I'm in the second year of A-Levels, taking Maths, Graphics, and ICT.

I'm going to Goldsmiths, University of London, to Study either a BSc in Creative Computing, or a BA in Computing and Interactive Design. The first requires BBB, and the second you also need a portfolio of work for your interview.

I really reccomend this place, and have visited on a couple of occasions. It has brilliant facilities, with I would say more Macs than PCs, and is well known to be #1 in Creative courses (or something like that).

Take a look, I love it.

I finished a degree from the University of Plymouth last year, and I think it's something you should take a look at. From your interests you mentioned I think it would cater for you quite well.

It has plenty of scope for using flash, scripting, illustrating, and also has some very intersting busisness modules where you have to come up with a viable bussiness plan and structure a group around it...

The course is now called DigitalArt and Technology, it covers learning about computer hardware, java, visual basic, how people use computers - congition and so on, how the media is manipulative, typography, design, through to conceptual art.

The course is tough, but it gets great reviews in Computer Arts magazine and staff and facilities are great.

But, when choosing a course, you are choosing a university too. Plymouth Uni has been upgraded alot since I started which is good.

I went to plymouth so that I could surf, which I did, and I loved it.
 
Take a look at *I think* the latest issue of Web Designer. They have a ton of courses all geared up to a career in this undustry. I was just reading through it at my college's library, and thought it may help.

Like Damien said you really only skim the surface of technologies.

I may be wrong, but from my Uni knowledge your not likely to get it all (at a in-depth level anyway).

You can have the Web design with graphics design or Web design with the Business. So best to think hard about what you want
