AirPods are a week old. Not used them for calls as generally I will only do so if my phone rings when walking but was on the phone to someone there with my right AirPod in (I normally omly
Wear one) and they kept saying sorry. So I asked if they could hear me well and they said it was muffled and quiet. I cut them off. Popped out the AirPod. Popped in my working old AirPod 1 pro right pod (the left crackles) and rang them back. Much louder and much clearer they said.

Going to experiment tomorrow at office but anyone else had similar ?

Have you made any other calls? I would try recording voice some memos for a comparison. Mabye it was just that one call which you ended and called back.
