If you are also one of those people who has seen the glossy professional advertising the Calypso Crystal company develop will agree, the product and the company itself are one of quality. Don't be fooled by this thought, as the reality of purchasing something from this company is sadly a different experience from those portrayed in the media.

My experience started in September 2016 when I initially contacted the company with regards to a new iPhone 7 plus Calypso Crystal Zurich Night Book phone case. I had been notified that a two week turnaround for dispatch should be expected. This didn't seem unreasonable and I proceeded with my order and paid in full.

3 months later I still hadn't received my case, I contacted the company more times than I can remember if I/you are lucky enough to receive a response of any kind, that is. The company completely ignores your requests for updates on your order and contact is very difficult. It was only when they were threatened with legal action did they respond. I was provided with numerous excuses from leather quality, to metal band quality, to build quality. Delays in materials and incorrect materials were also cited as reasons for my order delay.

Finally late in December 2016 my case finally arrived. The shock when I opened the box was the next biggest disappointment I faced.

After all of the time, the hype and the quality control processes I was informed about, I could not believe what CC sent out to me at a cost of $199 plus P&P. It looks like one of those cheap tat cases you can pick up for less than $20. It does not look anything like it does in the professional imagery. The leather is so cheap, shinny, poor quality and so thin you can see all the imperfections as it is stretched and glued down. Not a fine stitch or vision of craftsmanship anywhere. In fact the Company logo was also missing and the case looks nothing like the solid and rigid version in the glossy advertising. Don't be fooled by any of this. This is cheap crap made to look better than it is, the metal band sits proud and the front cover won't last. The company is a joke and so are their products.

Check out these photos below and people can make up their own minds, I can support all the above with documented correspondence.

CC didn't respond to my final complaint and I'm stuck with the junk for a cost to me of over two hundred dollars, how's that work?

Nice one Calypso Crystal.

I'm sorry that you believed them to begin with. Not sure why you did. Best of luck in the future.

That cost you $199+? I'd be pretty upset too. That looks like a case you can buy from those mall kiosks or on eBay from China.

That's horrible.

Putting aside my opinion in such a purchase, thats really horrible what happened. Is there no legal action that can be taken against them?

Why wouldn't I believe them? All the magazines promoting ( Stuff, gadgetmac, etc) internet sites endorsing them, I had no reason not to believe them? There were no negative reviews, all hidden.? I thought from the advertisement and marketing so positively I was engaging with a quality company.

Doubtful, and since the last post the volume buttons have fallen off as well, ha ha. I used to purchase from other premium suppliers of cases and had no problems before for iPhone cases.

I only posted to deter would be customers of this company going down same route.

Did you attempt a return? I'm assuming yes but kinda curious what they had to say regarding the quality.

I sent 2 further correspondences to them via their website contact us link. The phone number didn't work? They ignored my requests. This is how they operate. I just gave up. Never responded to date.

I didn't want to return the case to them as I didn't think they would return the money to my account.

At least it keeps my new phone safe until I can get another.

There's a pretty long thread here surrounding the delays and questionable quality of the cases they finally shipped for the iPhone 6.

If you ever consider a SolidSuit, I'd read that thread as well.

A lot of "reviews" now serve only as promotional puffery, no matter the source, large or small. Carefully consider all the sources, and make an informed decision.

Consider going after them by sharing photos/correspondence on Facebook and Twitter? It's just an idea.

As stated originally when I searched this company for reviews there weren't hardly any negative reviews available, I found something initially on iPhone 4/5s case. Hardly damning. More to do with design rather than quality. If the company was so bad I would have expected to see more. By the way all sources are considered and informed decisions are made however this is the first time I have purchased a product on the internet which fell this low below expectations. As stated not looking for hindsight "advice" just to share the the negative experience which seems to be unavailable on the net and appropriately proportionate to this crap company.

I leave the twittering to the Trumps!

Then it's unfortunate you didn't come across this, from over two years ago.

Anytime I make a big purchase ( and 100$ + for a case is a big purchase) I google until I feel content.

To find that article plus a few others took 10 seconds.

Hope you can get some money back somehow op.

I did. One thread two years old whoppee. It's evident you have not recognised the main issue, which was the quality, and I appreciate you are trying to protect your opinion, which it only is. This thread concentrates on delivery delays etc and there are a 'few' unsatisfied customers. As stated hardly damning. Two years ago! Could it be isolated, overwhelmed, etc. Please can you show me a company which has never had bad reviews? Luxury brands I own have been criticised by others when a company fails on those few occasions. If I used your logic I wouldn't buy anything of anyone. Oh I won't buy that Ferrari as there have been some concerns regarding Italian reliability with cars in the past. Give me a break.

Not looking for a refund $199, cost me more in my time in Au dollars and not a major issue for me as it is for some, just trying to provide the photos people where asking for. For people who struggle, (why people who struggle financially consider spending this on a case in the first place is another thing.?) The delivery/leadtime thing for me was only an issue when the product quality didn't correlate with the time taken to receive. Does this make sense. I don't want people thinking of buying a nice gift for someone special wasting their money. (Especially when things are tight)I didn't come here for opinionated and uniformed views as stated.
[doublepost=1487584033][/doublepost]Just for note... Complicity71 was only one who posted pics of Zurich night book stating "quality good"... so what's you point?

Your own words?

"Honestly, I think they're just a small company that's been overwhelmed."

It's all about risk assessments with everything we do or buy. Yes there was a risk the product could be delayed from the "few complaints" which are evident from the threads, but percentage wise of overall customers who have ordered? Has this company only sold to perhaps 20 disgruntled customers over the past 6-7 years. Are they the only customers they ever had? (Doubtful otherwise difficult to continue in business). Furthermore where are all the negative views on the final quality? Scruffy didn't like cabrio version, Complicity71 said his Zurich book was good. (Admittedly looks much better than mine in terms of quality)Are these the only 2 cases they have sold? Again doubtful. Yes I was was a bit concerned with lead times and was annoyed to wait but some times things go wrong. Identifying consistency of company behaviour is key and even in the words of the appropriately name intruder as above

"Honestly, I think they're just a small company that's been overwhelmed."

Informed decision making requires quality data in the first instance and consideration needs to be given to the 100s who have received goods and not complained.

I'm adding to the consistency- which from my perspective is bad.

Are you in the US? If so, file a BBB complaint. It could help, if nothing else it will help others.

What's your issue with the solid suit? It's the best case I ever owned for the iPhone 6.

I'll look at Solid suit as alternative thanks, I'm in Australia so not sure if BBB thing works here?
[doublepost=1487641443][/doublepost]Just checked Rhinoshield site they don't yet make iPhone 7 plus case.....coming soon.....sounds familiar but at least they don't take your money first.

SolidSuit, or PlayProof?

I don't have any issue with the SolidSuit, or Rhinoshield.

The backers of the KS project may have a legitimate beef, though, judging from the comments in that thread here, and the comments on the KS site. After the delamination problems, promises of replacements, and then finally a complete reboot, I guess they've finally managed to ship out the new version, six months or so later.

Don't know about you, but there is no shortage of substitute cases, and with the shelf life of an iPhone form factor usually measured in 12-24 months, that's a pretty serious fumble. For what is essentially a piece of injection molded plastic.

Like the CC thread, just pointing out something to be aware of for anyone is considering that case.
