Hi people. I always make my iMac go to sleep when I'm not using it including when I go to bed.

Today when I came home from work I pressed on the keyboard to wake up my Mac but nothing happened. I then found out that it was shut off. I checked my alarm clock and the numbers weren't flashing, meaning there wasn't a power outage. No one in my family would touch my computer but it would not have been my family.

This is the second my iMac has shut off after a day's sleep. I wonder what happened? Is there a log somewhere in OSX that shows last activities, or last shut off/log out?

Thanks.

check the console in applications utilities

The lastlog may shed some light. Go into Terminal and type:

last | more

Any "shutdown" entries around the time in question?

This happened to me last night, I went to bed with my new iMac on (I just made the switch from a PC a week ago and am in LOVE) and when I woke up it was off. Maybe it is an energy-saving feature?

i havent had that on a new 2009 iMac. in fact i could tell it was on all night b/c it kept saying what time it was lol (i set that up). anyway why do u need to leave it on all night? the iMacs are so fast that they boot up in like 10 seconds or less

Macs are intended to run all the time and sleep when not in use.
