My theory is Apple doesn’t raise the camera bump to protect the lenses to sell cases which do. This epiphany came about after Apple refused to warranty my silicone case which developed an indentation from normal use (taking it off and swiping). What kind of stupid design decision is this if it is not intentional?

Not a new theory and one that to me pokes some holes in the theory that the current level of camera technology dictates the size of the camera bump.

If Apple is protecting case sales by designing the camera bump to fit flush with a case then this is on purpose and not necessarily limited by technology. It's a particular flaw in the camera bump theory I've not yet seen sufficiently explained.

Your theory (which is again, not new) does lend credence to the thought out there that the camera bump is an Apple design aesthetic.

PS. I don't use cases, so the whole bump thing is real for me.
