I recently bought an iPhone 17 Pro Max and noticed that when I tap the camera control button with my finger, the button rattles. So, the button is a bit loose in the housing. When I try to move the button back and forth, it only moves very very slightly. So it's not wobbling around in the housing or anything like that. Otherwise, the button works perfectly and the pressure point is as it should be too. It only rattles when I actually tap the button. It doesn't rattle when I shake the iPhone, for example.

I tried this on two other 17 Pro Max devices and found that one of them had a similar issue.

It doesn't really bother me in everyday use. I'm just wondering whether this is within manufacturing tolerances or whether it's a defect. Maybe someone here has had a similar experience.

For what it’s worth, I have the same iPhone but the camera button is rock solid. I’m very surprised to hear yours moves at all. Do you live close enough to an Apple Store to have them look at it?

Yes, I have two Apple Stores near me. I'm also afraid of what would be with a replacement device. Maybe there will be something else wrong.

I think he meant have them replace it. It would be covered under warranty.

I haven’t heard of any other people with a loose camera button.
Yeah, me neither. If anything, there are only reports that this happens with cases.
I'm just not sure if Apple would give me a replacement device. It doesn't limit the function, and you only hear it when you actively tap the button. You don't hear it when you use the button normally.

Yeah, it’s really up to you if it bothers you enough to have it checked out.
