Camera defaulting to Live mode

The camera on my iPhone 12 auto defaults to having Live mode activated. If I turn Live mode off and then close the camera app, when I reopen the camera Live mode is active again.

Is there a way to turn it off permanently?

Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings > Live Photo > ON

This means once you set Live Photo to Off within the camera app, it will stay off.

Do you hate Live Photo as much as i do?
