Hi

I first thought I was also affected by this camera problem. But seems to be something else and I have not found anything directly about it.

In apps like ScannerPro or in code scanner apps the camera image is displayed blurred. (See screenshots)

You have to hold the iPhone unnaturally far away until the image becomes sharp („you’re holding it wrong“) I'm coming from an iPhone 12 Pro and it doesn't have this problem.

Do you also have this problem?

Same distance, about 12cm

The app could potentially be trying to use the wrong lens? If this behaviour isn’t what it does in the regular Apple camera app then it is the app you’re trying to use.

The minimum focus distance on the 14 pro main camera is 20 cm. Anything closer than that will be out of focus. Your only recourse if you can’t get further away is to switch to the Ultrawide lens.

This is interesting. It's in the app like when I shoot with the normal camera but turn off the macro mode.

But the macro mode comes "too early". With the iPhone 12 Pro I could take closer photos without macro mode.

Is this a hardware thing?

Yeah it’s a hardware limitation created by moving to a larger sensor but not increasing the depth of the camera bump all that much. The 13 Pro also had a longer minimum focus distance (15 cm) compared to the 12 Pro. I found that increase to be manageable. But the jump to 20 cm on the 14 Pro is proving to be challenging. That is also the reason the camera switches into macro mode earlier on the 14 Pro. It’s trying to give you an in-focus image.

So does that mean when the sensor gets bigger, you can't get as close to the subject?

I've been experimenting with the macro mode. When you're not as close to the subject, the image is slightly distorted (from the ultra-wide camera). Not so great. And so I guess the apps don't switch the lens.

I had this problem with Scanner Pro last week, but a few days later I used it again and it was back to working? Maybe they updated the app.?
