Any way to disable the camera in messages?

Every time I try to text a friend a picture/screenshot, the photo selector automatically runs the camera and makes the music I'm listening to stop. So annoying. My biggest gripe with iOS 10 so far.

Before, you had the option of selecting from camera roll, or going to the camera and taking a picture. No problem. Why did they have to change it?

Just tried this on my ipad and iphone, playing a podcast (Overcast) and Apple Music respectively. Indeed you get the camera preview but neither stopped playing audio. What app are you listening to music with?

Good thought! I didn't think about the possibility of the problem being app-based.

Alright, so it must be intermittent. I use Spotify, so initially I thought maybe it was just a problem with their app. So i tested it out just now using the stock Music app, and you're right. Playback did not stop. So then I tried Spotify again, and now it doesn't stop either!

Maybe I just fixed it by doing it once with the Music app, who knows. But it has been consistently stopping playback from Spotify since I updated. Just now was the first time I haven't seen it stop playback. I will update if it starts up again. Thanks!

Weird! Probably just the *.0 blues. Glad it's doing what you want of it. :)

Update: It's doing it again...

Listening to Spotify. Screenshotted something funny on Reddit, went to send it to my friend. Playback stopped when camera preview came up. Can't seem to pin it down to a specific time/action.

The whole live camera thing is goofy. Once again, just let me turn stupid "features" off.

I have the same when opening the Camera app with Spotify, music playing in iOS 10 but music only stops with I move on to Video, before, with iOS 9 it was with the still camera as well.

I would think it's because the Camera app requires microphone/speaker access it overrides the current output, I have observed similar behavior over the years with iOS and it does make sense to hand over control to the dominant/foremost app.

All that being said I have not been able to replicate the specific problem with adding or taking a photo in iMessages with Spotify playing in iOS10.
