camera not activating if opened from lock screen while apple maps active

I noticed a strange bug with my iphone X. I have not updated to 11.2 yet but I will do so when I get the chance to see if the bug exists there too. If I have apple maps active and the phone is locked (lock screen is showing directions) and I attempt to open the camera, the screen just stays black. Anybody have this issue? I discovered this while I was using the iphone for walking direction and when the phone was locked, I opened the camera by swiping down from the right and pressing the camera shortcut. It will try to open but all I get is a black screen.

Works properly on my 7 running 11.2.
