If I'm not completely mistaken, we have some people here with both the latest iPhones and some of the latest Samsungs. While it seems to be clear that the iPhone 8 is a real improvement compared to the previous iPhone generation, how does it compare to the latest Samsungs? I understand they are close, but do you prefer either one for the important photos? If you do, what are the most important differences?

I don’t have a Note 8, but I do have S8+ and iPhone 8+. I’ll share some comparison pics I took with both later tonight and you can see which you prefer more.

Awesome, thanks :) Most comparisons I've found are on YouTube and with those it's hard to say whether stills show the actual detail or whether something's been lost to video compression.

The 8's photos are amazing! Much improved for the iPhone. And many reviews seem to say the same.

It's interesting that they're more rich and saturated than with previous iPhones. I believe Apple is adjusting their image processing a little more toward the previous industry leads (Samsung & Google) who have had far more saturation and what I call "pop" to them. They made iPhone photos look slightly dull and muted in comparison. The Google Pixel seems to have found a balance people appreciate. Seems so have Apple.

It also can't be a coincidence that Apple's vision of the future of iPhone is in OLED, where the new image processing will shine.

Kudos to Apple. The S8 Plus photos look great, too.

Camera is a big influence on where I go for my daily driver. This is a big step for getting me back to Apple. Can't wait to see the competition's response, and what the iPhone X can do, especially with an OLED screen.

The Samsung photos all look blown out/over exposed in good lighting situations. I have to say I prefer the iPhone 8 pics however in low light the Samsung takes the better pic for sure due to the bigger aperture.

Thanks for the pics! Both seem to do really well, it's hard to pick out a definite winner here. In some shots there's a noticeable color difference, so it would be nice to know which one is closer to truth. Especially that white flower one, is it the iPhone going too warm with a yellow tint or the S8+ opting for the cool side with extra white?

Little bit of both is true I think depending on the light. However, this creates instances where I prefer the S8+ camera, and also instances where I prefer the iPhone 8+.

Though, when actually taking the pics, the S8+ pics are utterly insane due to that phenomenal OLED display. Comparing on my MacBook Pro though, the edge is very very slightly in favor of the iPhone 8+ in many pics, but not all.

I was looking at them on my MacBook Air and 9,7" iPad Pro and it seems like the iPhone 8+ scored a few more wins while the S8+ also came out on top with some shots. But anyway, it looks like you can't go wrong with either. Both outperform my iPhone 7 and OnePlus 5 with ease.

The iPhone 8 pictures are really impressive. As others have said there isn't really a clear winner here as both did better in certain shots. If you held a gun to my head I'd pick the 8 plus based on what I've seen here. It will be interesting to see how the note 8 compares.

I viewed these pictures on my ipad Pro 10.5 and my MBA.

Yep, based on photo quality alone I’d pick the 8 plus, too. However, when money is added to the equation, I might pick otherwise. Wasn’t it so that cameras are identical in the smaller S8 and the S8+? In that case the regular S8 becomes quite enticing (potential RAM management issues and FPS location aside) as you can get those for hundreds of Euros less than the 8+ without making a notable compromise in photo quality.

Yes the S8 and S8 + have the same cameras.

The note 8 has the dual lens camera.
