iPhone 8/Plus Camera Roll video to iMovie on iPhone 8?

Am I missing something really obvious?

I've tried options moving from camera roll to send to iMovie, and importing from iMovie, which also doesn't give me the option to import video shot on the same phone to import into the iMovie app on iPhone 8.

What am I missing, I would have thought that would be a simple and obvious thing?
