So im going to be going camping in north conway NH this week and i figured i would check out the AT&T coverage map. According to the map, my location falls under "partner coverage". Under the description of this coverage type it says two things that concern me "data coverage may not be available in this area" and "excessive use of partner coverage may lead to termination of plan". What do you guys think? What is "excessive"? I wont get one of those AT&T nightmare bills will I? (I'll still be in the united states after all

As long as you dont roam for more than 15 days in a month (50%) you will be fine. I just roamed for a week with no problem (in the US - EDGE was slow but otherwise it was fine.)

Your bill will be the same as long as your in the US.

i think exessive would apply to someone who buys an iphone knowing that there is no at&t service in their area, activates it using a supported address, and then proceeds to use it exclusivly in the no coverage area. This senerio would cause all activity on the phone to be on non AT&T networks. Some states ( i think vermont is one) have no at&t coverage, so I could see them not wanting people roaming full time on competitors networks just so they can use the iPhone.

does this mean i won't be the only one from this site in northern New England any more? J.K. LOL Good luck with you trip it should be nice over there. P.S. im in Maine.

also how the hell do i get rid of the newbie thing, for God sakes ive been here a while!

Living in VT and MT, i've looked extensively into just this.

Officially, you are not permitted to use more than 40% of your monthly minutes on partner towers. Now, many CSRs report that it takes a few months of repeated 'excessive' use, but eventually you'll be flagged by the partner, who reports it to AT&T, who then notifies you that your account is to be shut down.

To sum up, you'll be fine. If you were spending a solid two months in NH, however, it'd be different.

On a side note, I understand AT&T's reasoning behind this, as it actually ends up costing them money. But why could there not be a TRUE nationwide plan with increased rates to cover those costs? It can't be that difficult to up the charge based on how much money the actually lose in this situation.

and data?

thanks for the replys guys. I should stay WELL below 40-50% of my minutes. But what about data limits? I'm checking out MR, using google maps, checking weather, and just surfing in my down time. How much data usage would put me over they limit. My phone displays the "E" edge symbol but i think that has to be from the "partner" network, right? thanks alot guys!

Unrelated to the topic, but the MR titles, i.e., newbie, regular, member, etc. refers to the number of posts. The FAQ doesn't seem to be working for me right now... but there's a brief mention in that of each "level requirement" :)

Hey I'm in Maine too! Where are you? I'm in Bangor. My girlfriend, and boss both have iPhone's too but I have yet to see anyone else with one.

How's coverage where you are? Bangor is pretty good, it' has it's moments though. Definitely not as good as when I had T-Mobile...but I can't help it, I love the phone.

I live in NH, and when I purchased / activated, I lived up here. How is that an issue?

I could imagine if there were too many "partner" towers - they would have not allowed me to activate in the first place.

That "termination of contract due to excessive partner useage" bit is really new to me -- I guess Verizon treated me better than I thought?

?

Yep, I spent more than a solid year in Canada on a Verizon North Americas Choice plan (more expensive than Americas choice, but definately not priced for continuous usage). As long as I paid my bill they didn't care -- free long distance and roaming in both countries saves a fortune...

When I inquired about it prior to switching the plan (being honest it would be continuous usage) the rep acted like it was a stupid question -- of course I could use it as much as I wanted, why would they sell it if I couldn't use it?

But I had Sprint terminate a line because I added their 5$ a month feature that let's you roam on Verizon. For two months I used just over half my minutes while "roaming" at my billing address. Bam, termination letter.
