Does your campus netwowrk have any requirements in terms of PPTP, or some form of LDAP login? A lot of campus wifi networks are "powered" by a solution called BlueSocket, which often requires some weird authentication methods to gain access.

EDIT: Nevermind. :) But how did you get it working?

Well when I investigated there was no IP address for that wifi network. So I renewed the lease and had to wait a long time (like 3-5 minutes) before I got assigned an IP address.

My school uses BlueSocket. Should I expect problems with iPhone trying to get access? I assumed it would work fine.

Depends on how they have it set up. In the simplest (and thankfully most common) implementation, you connect and the first page you access will be an LDAP login (usually involving some sort of school e-mail or campus id login, commonly called a "NetID"). Enter that and your password, and you're authenticated.

If you don't see such a page, then the access point may be set up to require a PPTP connection. Bluesocket usually handles this automatically via a javascript or activeX control in IE or Firefox, but obviously the iPhone has neither interface. The good news is, you can still set up a manual connection by going into Settings -> General -> Network -> VPN. Turn VPN On, select PPTP, and then enter in the relevant info (which you'll have to obtain from your campus IT department).

I still have not been able to get onto our wifi network at nyu dental.

We use a vpn with a login and password.

For mac users there is not a vpn but they set it up on a seperate network for macs that logs on automatically.

I have been in the IT department three times and we have not been able to get it to connect.
The IT guys say it can't connect to the vpn because it requires Enterprise or something like that.

We both dont know why it wont connect to the other network which macs connect to.
Some message pops up for like half a second on my iphone screen and we dont get a chance to read what it says.

Any ideas or advice on how to go about trying to get on?
