Evenin!

I'm gonna be buyin my MacBook soon.. yay! :D

As my iMac has a 250GB HD, plus I like it.. I'm gonna use it as a server for all my music and vid files.

I don't intend on buying an AP base.. but can both Macs connect just via their built-in AP cards.. so that I can get my Music downstairs on my MacBook?

Thanks!

Not that this is perfect help, but I think they can. Under one of your Airport pull down menus in the menu bar, you should see something called create network. It's done through there I guess.

Yes, this is called ad-hoc networking, I think, and it is part of an Apple feature set called Bonjour. It's very easy to do -- when you get your two macs set up, there will be an airport icon (a series of waves) on the menu bar. You click on it and select "Create Network" on one of the macs, and then enter in a network name for your ad-hoc network. The name will then appear as a network on the other Mac and you can log into it. :)
