Hello
I did an upgrade of a Late 2012 Mac Mini and maxed the ram in it at 16. My husband has an Mid 2007 Mac Mini. The highest ram it would take is 4 (same as came out of my 2012).

I was just wondering if anyone has tried putting ram from a newer model into an older one as described above?

I've searched Google for awhile and can't seem to get a definitive answer to this.

The "definitive answer" is No...
The RAM for your 2012 mini is DDR3 (204-pin) SODIMM
The Mid 2007 takes DDR2 (200-pin) SODIMMs.
The DDR3 SODIMM won't even plug in to the slot, and cannot possibly work in the Mid 2007.
Your 2007 mini can accept 4GB, but won't actually recognize or use more than 3GB. You might put in a pair of 2GB sticks to have a measurable (but probably not noticeable in the real world) performance increase because of a matched pair, but the mini still would only use 3GB maximum.

Early 2006 - DDR2-667
Mid 2007 - DDR2-667
Early/Late 2009 - DDR3-1066
Mid 2010 - DDR3-1066 & DDR3-1333 both work
Mid 2011 - DDR3-1066, DDR3-1333, DDR3-1600, & DDR3-1866 all work
Late 2012 - DDR3-1066, DDR3-1333, & DDR3-1600 all work (DDR3-1866 will cause RAM beeps)
Late 2014 - Soldered, cannot be upgraded.

Thank you for responding, I wanted to inquire before trying it. I might go ahead down the road put the 4 gigs in (even if I only have 3 gigs) and use the Mini for a backup unit.

Thank you for responding, this is very useful information that I will save for any future mini's I might come across.
