Sorry I tried to google and read conflicting info.

Does this model have another slot for an internal ssd? At the moment I have a 1tb fusion drive in it.

what started me thinking about it was I have a thunderbolt 1 Samsung
Ssd which I bought about two weeks before my 2011 iMac died. It’s hardly been used and when put through an adaptor it works but doesn’t seem to allow me to put my boot camp partition on it.

so I was thinking if there’s a spare slot inside my iMac I could pull it apart and get the drive out and put it in.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Watch an iFixit breakdown video, it might show you.

Another idea would be to merely connect said drive via a housing and a USB connection...

If you are comfortable with working inside the iMac, including cutting through the glue that stick on 4 edge of the LCD screen, then I suggest you replace both the NVME SSD and the HDD inside your iMac. It's better that way.

Windows does not officially support booting from external drive.
This is applied for both Macs and PCs.
You need to hack it a little bit for a Windows-on-USB drive.
