Can 30" ACD mini-display run out of Promise Pegasus Thunderbolt or Lacie?

I have the new midlevel Mac Mini. If I buy either the Promise Pegasus or Lacie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt, will I be able to daisy chain my 30 inch Apple display with it's mini display adaptor out of either drive. Of course, the display is running out of the thunderbolt/mini-display port on the mini, but will it be exactly the same or just as capable running out of the port out of these thunderbolt drives.
I guess my question is: is the thunderbolt port on these drives mini-display capable as well.

Don't think it will work as you don't have a TB port on the 30" ACD, it wasn't around back then when the monitor was out. You're going to be stuck running the ACD off the HDMI which will not give you full resolution.

The Pegasus can put out Mini-DP in a daisy chain, so you don't need thunderbolt on the 30"

The good news is, I have a new Mini, Pegasus and 30" so I can test this for you. My fear is that you would need one of these: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A

I already have one of these adaptors (99 dollars) so I just want to know that the ACD with it's mini-display adaptor will run the same out of the pegasus as it does out of the mac mini thunderbolt/mini display port..

Good news. This works

Note: Make sure you get the USB plugged into the Mini as well. That is a requirement for this to work. Also, not sure why the Pegasus is reporting "No devices connected."

Glad to hear that it works for you but plugging in the usb into the back of the mini while plugging in the mini display plug into the pegasus might be very difficult with the expensive adaptor that I have from Apple. The mini display and the usb are joined with only about a foot of play where they can be separated to plug into different locations.
How are you doing this? This "http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A" is exactly what I have. There doesn't seem to be enough reach to separate the two plugs that much. Or perhaps it's long enough.
Also, is the color reproduction and reactivity of the screen as it was originally. I have a friend that tried with a different kind of screen and a mini display and there was a yellow cast to the color.
Lastly, should one shut down and then restart the system to do this, or is it simply plug and play.

The mini display and the usb are joined with only about a foot of play where they can be separated to plug into different locations.

You could try a USB extension cable, they're pretty inexpensive.

The main issue is if my 30 ACD will work as well as if connected directly to the mini. I have read that you cannot connect a mini display port to the thunderbolt port on the back of the new thunderbolt apple cinema display. No mini display out on this arrangement.
Thankfully this doesn't sound true for the promise pegasus. I wonder if it is the same for the Lacie thunderbolt drive as well.

Anandtech posted that if you want to use any displayport monitor on a new thunderbolt Mac, you just have to have it after another thunderbolt non-display device. He explains about how it strips all the thunderbolt data from the connection leaving only the display data (that was an overly simplified explanation). Technically this should work dor any display..

1. USB cable. I had my mini sitting right on top of the pegasus for this. As mentioned above, USB extension cable will be your best bet.

2. No color, scaling or clarity issues. Looked the same as if coming out of my MacBook Pro.

3. It is all plug and play.

By the way, are you happy with the Promise Pegasus, and does it add a lot of additional noise to the rather quiet mini or is ok?

Coming from a DroboPro, the noise is about on par. It definitely is not silent. One of the controller sensors is report temps just under the threshold, which may explain why my fan is running at 1100RPM consistently (above their healthy threshold of 1000).

I will probably contact Promise about that this week. I can report back and let you know if this is normal after speaking with Promise.

Thanks very much. I have heard that the Lacie makes a lot of high-pitched noise but not too much about the Promise Pegasus. I work in a very quiet environment and just got rid of a Mac Pro, so would want to know what kind of noise I'll be dealing with before plunging in.
