iPod can a corrupted SD card be fixed sd vs solid state drive

I posted a bit earlier on about a modified ipod classic 7th gen I bought, it had the tarkan flash adapter to fit a PNY 256gb SD card.

I have had trouble with it during playback, it would freeze, album art would get weird, and songs would stop and skip.

I have tried a reformat in itunes, but this did not help, had the same problems.

I then tried to put the ipod into disk mode to format this way in itunes, but itunes does not see the ipod in this mode, so this did not work.

So I have tried a format of the ipod through disk utility, and then another format in itunes with the ipod in its normal mode, itunes can see it then.

I communicated with the seller, and they told me that the tarkan person suggested to load/sync my music in blocks, and not all at once, as this can cause corruption.

So I am thinking of trying this, this is one thing I have not tried, as I have just plugged in the ipod, and had it sync all my music in one go.

I am not sure what else to do, I have been told that the card is possibly corrupted, so is there any way I can fix it? or is it goosed?

I am thinking of selling it on ebay as an as is with issues if I cannot get it to work properly, and with some of the money buy another modified ipod, maybe one with an actual solid state drive in it.

are solid state drives better than SD cards in terms of corruption issues? I am at a bit of a loss and am not sure what to do next.

If you're all out of options I would try this. You would need to to remove the card plug it into an SDXC reader though.

I would also try a different hard drive ribbon cable as sometimes they can go bad and cause these problems.

The mSATA iPods are the ones that can corrupt when you're syncing a lot of music in one go. SDXC and CF cards you can dump all your music in one shot.

I contacted the seller and they told me the sd card they used was a pny class 10 card 256gb.

does this card come preformatted to exfat?

and would a format to hfs journaled in disk utility and then another format in itunes straighten it out?

I did notice a slight gouge or ding on one side of the ipod, as though the seller may have struggled with getting the front and backs of the ipod back together. I read that they are hard to take apart and put back together.

Yeah it comes ExFAT format. I would try those 2 options or even buying a new card of same capacity or lower.

I have a 7Gen iPod with the same card and seems to be working fine.

Is there any particular thing I need to do disk utility? or can I just plug it in, and highlight the upper label called apple media and click erase? do I need to do any partitioning first? and what way to partition? or just erase?

did you even read the tarkan page link I showed you? You do no use disk utility to do what he recommends. It does require a machine running Windows though for that program.

ok, thanks, I took a closer look, that looks quite complicated, and I dont know how to open up the ipod and take the card out, and then place the card in an adapter, of which I would have to get, and that is a bit too much for me now, I think I may look for an msata ipod, or just stick with the original hard drive based ipods, it seems these high capacity cards come formatted with an incompatable format, and I dont have the money and time to deal with odd formats.

I see even if I sold this ipod and got another sd card based one, I would likely have the same problem, it seems exfat does not quite work on my computer, itunes, and music.
