Thanks. You helped me.Here's a short video I just shot with my iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 11 Developer Preview 1. Get Info confirms it's HEVC.
iPhone 6S Plus with iOS11 can‘t play the file.
Okay, thanks, very nice!Yes sorry, I wanted to remove the metadata so edited then transferred, but I think iMovie on the iPhone actually encoded to AVC. Let me try again with full video...
Ok try this:

Will be up for 7 days.
Apple said older devices should be able to play them via software decoding ...Interesting, maybe only 7 series can play back 4k HEVC.

Try in macOS 10.13 High Sierra. The files import fine into Photos.Thanks. You helped me.
So: It's not possible to import the HEVC file into Final Cut Pro.![]()
VLC is a lousy HEVC player. Try playing it in IINA.Interesting. I downloaded the file and Sierra's Quicktime Player can't play it. VLC can open it and it starts to play, and I can even see the image briefly, but the video gets corrupted and doesn't play properly.
I have a feeling HEVC will be a headache for compatibility until more devices support it. I mean, if freaking VLC can't play it, I doubt much outside High Sierra and iOS 11 devices will!

But better yet, just use QuickTime in High Sierra. See here:

Can some who owns an iPhone 7 post a HEVC video and a HEIF photo?
Many many many thanks
