I'm running SLS as an SUS, it's also farming out profiles to connected Macs, including a preference setting to use the local server for SU. This is great! But, can I get the server to reference itself for its own updates? Currently, it downloads those separately, which seems such a waste of time and bandwidth given that its already downloaded them for the networked computers.

Go to and open /Library/Preferences/com.Apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist.

Add a key named CatalogURL with the value being the address of the server. This should work:

"http://localhost:8088/index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.sucatalog"
