Can you explain why this link doesn't 'work' as I expect?

( Note to moderator: If I've asked in the wrong place, please transfer my question to another section)

When I click "Sign In" at the Apple user forums I get that address appended with a whole lot more and it works.

They just don't have any kind of working redirect for the basic address.

From where did you copy the URL?

I trimmed the "whole lot more" part in my browser address bar and then searched on the remainder.

When I go to 'sign in' to the ASC forums I'm asked if I want to sign in - but I see TWO choices.

"Use a different AppleID" is an alternative to using my REAL AppleID.

Do you also have the two choices?

Any number of valid reasons - including cookies. The link may work if a cookie is set, or the different or - insert any number of web patterns here.

Is what it is & nothing you can do about it.

What reason(s) can you think of for wanting to "Use a different AppleID"?

Why don’t you ask this question on the Apple Support Community forum to get a definitive answer?
That would, indeed, be a good place to ask. I used to post there as 'HunterBD' but someone there objected to my posts.
I have never determined the reason.
if you'd like to ask on my behalf, please provide a link to the thread you start. Thank you.

I do not have an account on ASC and I’m certainly not going to create one just to ask a question for someone else. If you don’t currently have an ASC account, then surely you can create a new one?

I'm just a little puzzled! May I enquire why you suggested the ASC forums if you do not use them yourself?

It could even be you have a friend using your computer and they want to sign in using their ID.
Well - that is something I have never, ever, considered - probably because I use an iMac which nobody else ever uses! Thank you! 🙂

What do you mean by "Some people have different Apple IDs"? I use the same Apple ID on my iMac, my iPad Pro, my iPhone and even on my aged iPod!

Yep this is standard, nothing strange here
My understanding is that an individual can have more than one AppleID and presumably therefore more than one login on ASC. I’m not interested in why users want more than one AppleID or ASC account As long as these logins are not used for malicious purposes, what’s the harm?

I have 2, for some reason the login on the first one was disabled, I have no idea why this happened, I only posted a couple of times and both were very non-controversial. I emailed the community accounts several times over the course of six months to find out why, but never received a reply. In the end I spoke to Apple support, who said that while this isn’t an official Apple site, they were aware that people had multiple logins for various reasons. So I now have a second that I use solely for ASC.

Thank you for so advising, Asinrutee.

I have tried, on a number of occasions, to contact staff at the “communityaccounts@apple.com” address but have never received a response. I have asked real-life friends to make contact at that address but they, too, have received no reply.

Apple don’t appear to be at all concerned that there are people posting on the ASC using FALSE AppleIDs.

I have asked Apple if it is, shall we say, ‘accepted practice’ and await a response.
