Dear MacRumors friends,

I'm looking for help from an US user to report a concern on a review of my app [app]ABContacts[/app]. Since I'm italian I can't report a concern on the US iTunes store.

Here's the review, one star, from "Boca Bill" :
Installed app and when I got my first phone call, the screen went black and I couldn't answer the call. I purchased the app because it offered smart groups.

Does anyone know of another app that works?

I's obviously not an ABContacts issue since when you're receiving a call there's no app running.
If anyone can please report a concern on iTunes I would be grateful.

Thank you !!

That was the first review of this version of the app. There seems to be a variety of reviews of the app, with the current average rating of 3 stars by 194 users.

If it appeared to be an aberrant rating, I'd report it, but there are a variety of plus and minuses with your app apparently.

It's not the first this release is out since march !

And my issue is that it's obviously wrong. If he said "I don't like it" I can accept it but it says that ABContacts has broken the phone app that is a non-sense.

I understand that you are frustrated but I would say MANY of the 1 to 3 star reviews we get are BS from people that are either simply uninformed or just fibbing for whatever reason. This IS going to happen on the App Store. As developers, we can't change it so just move on and make your product better. You can't take these things personally. Believe me, it sucks, I know. You simply can't please everyone.

I fully disagree with devs asking people to report reviews they disagree with. Perhaps, at the time it was correct. Perhaps the experience this user is having is not ideal but it is their experience. Who in the heck are you to decide what reviews people should leave and what reviews they shouldn't leave?

That is totally unfair to us as a customer. If I buy an app I'm going to review it honestly. I'm not going to cater my review to any dev's liking, even if I was given the app for free.

This is the nature of the game. If someone were going to buy the app based on the reviews (many do) then hopefully they have enough sense to tell BS from a real review. Give your customers a bit more credit.

^^^

I really can't understand why users don't understand this.
I mean, it's technically not possibile that ABContacts has created the issue with the phone call. This is ignorance and since it affects what other people may think about the app, I can't accept it.

It's like saying that the flower you've near your monitor is causing the monitor flicking. Complete non-sense.

As I said a lot of times, I've no problem with users that don't like my apps but saying totally untrue things really hurts me.

@return7: I know but why can't we try to explain users how thing works ? Why leaving them in complete ignorance ? It's a hard work but someone has to do it.

Uh, no. It sounds like he was running your application, then the phone rang. Your application is supposed to unload gracefully and switch to the phone application. It seems that this did not happen. It seems like your application got stuck in the unloading section and he could not answer the phone. Sounds like a legit concern to me. If this was his first experience with the application, even if things were right and he just did something wrong, it was his experience with it. If it truly did lock up, then he does have the right to gripe.

Personally I don't read it that way (but since I'm italian maybe I'm wrong). But if even it was like you said, it could not happen on iPhone OS, if an app takes more than x seconds to close (don't remember how many but very few) it is killed by the OS. Moreover the OS closes the app after the call is answered not when it rings so it probably was an issue with the OS.

I don't know, yes, you may be correct and this could be an OS problem. But from an end user stand point, they don't know the difference and really don't care. All that they know is that this happened right after installing your application, so it must be the one to blame, right? :D

Ok, but don't you think I should at least be able to explain to this guy what's happened ?
Instead I've a one star review that many guys like him will read and think the app does not work ! Ok there are many five star reviews but few one star reviews weights more than lot of five stars...

I do think you should - this side of the reviews really stinks for the developers. I wish there was a way for devs to contact people for help thru the store like this :(
