I'm really not doing this to become mega rich. I mean I wouldnt mind some money coming my way but I'm really just doing this because I just can't find an app that really fulfills my needs. I can't seem to find a really good planner and it's kind of frustating.

So I'm just wondering if it's humanly possible for someone with no programming knowledge to develop an app or am I just kidding myself???

Any and all advise on this I would greatly appreciate.

To put it simply: no. There’s a ton that goes into programming.

But if you tell us what your needs are, perhaps we could help?

Is it possible to learn programming without going to a college or uni? It seems there are a few people that can learn programming on the side and keep their necessary jobs.

If you're smart, persistent, and put in the time.

Could be a several months of work before you know enough about programming to understand some of the important iPhone specific software techniques.

A few people are faster... and some people never get that far.

ymmv.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I would think you'd need to start by learning the basics of Objective C.

Although it's good to keep your expectations realistic, there's no reason not to try. It may take you years, but if you keep at it and keep learning you'll eventually get there. iTunesU has an online course (from Stanford University I think) that teaches iPhone programming. I've never looked at it so I don't know how it is, but it's free so it's worth taking a look at.
Good luck!

If you have a Mac, pull out XCode and try to write yourself a little application to do something, anything. If you find it easy / understandable / interesting, then you may be ready to start thinking about going further. Development of any Mac application is similar to iPhone app development, no need to spend money to buy your way into the iPhone development program.

I haven't ever programmed for the iPhone, but I did teach myself a little C+ and some visual basic at one time. It's like anything worthwhile (learning a language, studying music, etc.) it takes persistence, and, I would say, an interest in logic.

It will also make you appreciate the work that goes into making all those fun and useful programs that end users tend to take for granted.
