I jailbroke my 3G today via red snow, then when I restored it un jailbroke it. I know I must be missing something, because a couple days back I was able to recover my info while keeping the jailbreak. the only difference was the other time I used pwned ipsw instead of redsnow. any advice?

Maybe even a way to jailbreak without loosing personal data (camera roll and contacts mainly) in the first place?

If you use Pwnage, you Option+click restore and select the custom ipsw...but if you just click restore it will default to the stock 3.0 OS and you will lose your jailbreak.

Moral of the story, dont restore unless you really need to

If you used redsn0w, why did you restore your device? I believe you can just right-click your iPhone in iTunes and select Restore from backup which only transfers your settings, etc. :)

okay, I guess I assumed that restoring to anything prior to the jailbreak would unjailbreak it, but apparently not.

I jailbroke again today and I now have everything I need on it, mostly anyway. I'll ssh the rest later.

problem though, my phone's not finding service anymore. voice mail wont log in. while I haven't tested it, I probably cant make or receive calls.

Now what am I supposed to do?

Edit: re did the whole thing once again, and everything seems good so far.
