my letter V fell off. originally I had the 3 bits but couldn't get it to fit back on and now I've lost one of the 3 bits. I know there's cheap places you can buy the keys and the back bits but can I just go to an apple centre and what would they charge?

If the keyboard is scissor lift style, repairing those is almost more trouble than it's worth. Used apple keyboards can be found on ebay/ sometimes Goodwills. Good new replacments can be purchased at Best Buy or Amazon. I would think the Apple center would suggest a new keyboard though; again scissor lift style keyboards can be fixed, but it is a pain to do. Replacing is the route to go.

What year is the computer?
If it's a 2016 and later MacBook Pro, only solution is to replace the entire topcase.
But there's a free replacement program for this that should still be in effect.

sorry no its just the keyboard that came with my 2017 iMac. I don't have to buy another keyboard as I have two older keyboards from older Macs but I liked the newer design and the lighting charging above the rechargeable batteries in the older ones.

If it's a 2017 MacBook Pro then it should be covered by Apple's extended warranty program for keyboards.

You will probably have to leave it at an Apple Store genius bar, and it will be shipped to Apple for repair.

But there is NO OTHER WAY to "fix" this problem.
