I won an eBay auction for a 2014 rMBP and it was being shipped through USPS Priority Mail. The tracking said it was delivered a couple days earlier than expected, but I never received the item. I tried calling our local town USPS branch, but as expected they were not helpful and did not follow up/return my call.

My question is, the seller gave me the serial#. Is there a way that Apple would help out and see if that serial# has been added to an iCloud account recently? The seller shipped it with a wiped/clean install SSD and not associated with his iCloud account of course.

The know-it all's will correct me if I'm wrong but generally if you aren't the current registered owner you won't get any assistance from Apple.

Apple will not assist you. The seller really needs to file a claim with USPS because he is the one that paid for shipping and hopefully, insurance.
It's through eBay and he's already paid, so I don't think he has to file a claim for any money back himself. The USPS tracking shows that it was delivered, so he's kinda clear. It's my word against USPS' and who knows if eBay is going to refund me based on that. They (USPS) are so unreliable and have no real customer assistance in a situation like this. I once had to track down and redirect a package on my own because it went to the wrong state.

The worst is that some ****** person who received it by mistake, didn't do the right thing and have the post office pickup the package. And I'm short a gift I was planning to give to someone.

Yeah, kinda what I assumed. Just figured I'd post and see what users say. I thought that if you could track down someone who added the serial to their iCloud in a theft situation that you could get the address and have the local police look into it. Kind of a lot for a $200 laptop, but I'm pissed. It was in great shape, with the OG box and I just narrowly won the auction.

Update: So after hounding the USPS for days, they found where the laptop was and delivered it to me. I'm shocked. I thought for sure this thing was a lost cause.

So the delivery driver delivered it to the wrong address? I hope they sacked the driver because there are a lot of unscrupulous people in this world who would keep the item rather than inform UPS that they had a wrong delivered package.

That is if how it went down, the delivery driver screwing up.

Yeah, basically. My sister told me the local branch is short-staffed and probably someone inexperienced with the area was working. Add to that, it was on a Saturday, so no way to get in touch with the office.

That's what I assumed, that wherever it went, someone would've snagged it. I don't think anyone reported it either. I think the supervisor just grilled the deliveryman and they went and picked it up and luckily it was still there.
