As I look at the stack of 150 or so legally purchased DVDs on my shelves, I'm thinking about simply using handbrake or some such to rip all of these DVDs to digital files, storing those on a massive hard drive, plugging that drive into my AEBS, and then purchasing an Apple TV to stream them to my TV.

Is this at all possible, or can Apple TV only sync/connect to computers? I'm not terribly familiar with Apple TV, so forgive my ignorance.

(And don't bother me with the legal details. I know this plan contains certain... complications. Which don't bother me in the slightest.)

Yes.

But you'll need to have your Mac running with iTunes open for it to stream. So essentially you are pointing your iTunes Movie and TV Show collection to your external drive plugged into your Airport Extreme.

This is my setup, and it works really well. Even streaming 720p is flawless.

Yes. I have a 1TB drive connected through my AEBS. I have a mini that acts as the server. You could easily use a laptop as a server instead.

Would a similar set up involving apple tv and a time capsule still allow streaming of all digital media? Is it possible for set up involving a Time Capsule and an XBOX 360 with wifi adapter still allow the streaming of digital media? Rather ignorant on the subject so any help in th most simplest of terms is greatly appreciated.
