I don't have an Apple TV just yet, but I'm building up a collection of all my DVD's and BD's on HDD.

First I make a backup copy as an .iso

Then I need to make 2 copies, one for playing on my iPod Touch.

And the other for playing on a 32" 1080p via ATV.

How is best to go about this? The new handbrake will not allow me to go above the source resolution, ie. downscale only.

And iTunes will refuse to make an "Apple TV version" if the source is smaller than the max ATV will accept.

Which is fine, providing ATV will upscale anything and everything from whatever resolution to 1920x1080 and fill the screen.

Is that possible?

Although it can only handle 720p input, the Apple TV will happily output 1920x1080 (and upscale to fit). But even if it didn't, your TV probably would.

Nice, thanks.

One other thing, if I use handbrake or iTunes to make a version for my iPod, but play that on the ATV upscaling it after its been downscaled - presumably that will be worse quality than the original?
