My ATV2 cannot connect to my AEBS. I thought it could connect as a local network even though the AEBS doesn't have internet but it's not working.

I want my ATV2, iP4 and AEBS to see each other but having no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I often use my Apple TV with my Airport Express (to use Airplay when I'm away). It connects no problem with or with out the internet.

Really? That's what I thought should be really easy to do BUT ATV2 does not want to connect. It sees the AEBS but just won't connect. I've tried everything. Made a new network and everything. WTF. So frustrated. I even tried switching to my Airport Express incase it was the Airport Extreme. Both had blinking yellow lights (assuming because there's no internet). My iPhone, MacBook and iPad all see any of the networks but the ATV won't connect to either. * And since we're on that topic of Airplay, my iPhone was connect to my Airport Express but the Airplay option wasn't on my iPhone. Nuts.

Are you using some special settings in the Airport Base Station Utility?

I should also not that my MacBook Airport Utility can find the AEBS when scanning. ATV2 sees it but cant' connect. I connected the AEBS to my MacBook using a LAN cable and obviously it saw it. That's how I was able to change settings etc.

Something's up.

That might be true.

Also, make sure that the aTV is signed in to the same homesharing account as the other devices.

doesnt it initially need an internet connection to assign an apple ID to the device for home sharing? or have i missed to point!
This is Airplay, not Home Sharing. When I used my iPhone4 as a hotspot for the ATV2 my friend was able to connect to my ATV2 and use Airplay without using any home sharing logins etc. She only needed to enter the password of my iPhone4's hotspot (same network the ATV2 was on).

My Airport Express is usually set up to join my main home network (the main network is a Time Capsule) and has speakers plugged into it. When I am taking it away I just use the Airport utility to change it to set up its own network. The Apple TV and my iPhone/iPad find that network no problem. The network I set up using my Airport Express has a different name from my main home network to avoid any confusion.

You don't need the internet at all as far as I can see to do this. Airplay works fine as you just need to be on the same network. I have also used home sharing from my MacBook whilst away from the internet with no problems.

From what I can see your setup should work. I can't see any obvious reason why it isn't.

Ahhh you know what I missed? When you select the AEBS (when there's no internet), it asks you if you want to join without using the net (just a straight wifi connection). I didn't click that so that's why it wouldn't connect for me.

So Everything is all sorted out. Home sharing and Airplay both ways except ONE thing and it's the biggest issue. I get an Airplay button in my iPhone camera roll but not in the iPod window. I get an Airplay button on my iPad2 but not iP4. GRrr.

EDIT: Seems Airplay has a bug where the iPhone needs rebooting sometimes. It's all over the net.
