Hi

I'm new to the Mac and have got a Mac Mini, without an optical drive.

I am aware you can share an optical drive from a windows pc/laptop with the Mac Mini for read-only purposes, but was wondering if it is possible to burn to disc something from the Mac via the shared optical drive, and how to do it.

Unfortunately, i need to burn something urgently tonight, and the usb dvd drive I ordered won't be here until tomorrow!

Cheers all.

I don't know of a way, but does the data need to be burned via Mac OS X or could you just copy the data via the established network to your Windows computer and burn from there?

I'm not entirely sure!

I will be creating a project on iMovie. If I can save the file and transfer it to the laptop then burn it, I guess it'd be much easier, but i'm not sure if I can.

Yes, you can save (export / SHARE) the file in iMovie, then get that file to the Windows PC. But I guess, you want to create a video DVD?

Yep, I want to create a DVD but have burning software on the laptop, so hopefully will be able to create the DVD with the file created on iMovie.

I'll give it a go, and if I get stuck, I'll be back here!

Cheers for the help!
