Can I burn a DVD through a PC laptop's drive?

Hi Everyone here at MR,
I got my ibook back in August and have been very happy with it so far. I haven't been here at MR since I then, mainly because I have been too infatuated with my mac

Anyway I'm back to ask for some help with DVD burning. I tried searching the forums for this but haven't found anything. If you guys know of anything, please point the way.

Basically my ibook doesn't have a dvd drive and I'm trying not to buy a external drive cuz I don't have the cash right now. So I was wondering if it was possible to connect the ibook to my sister's Dell laptop which has a DVD RW drive. I want to use iMovie to edit my home videos (from a sony handycam) and then burn them. I would just use the dell but the sony editing software sux, which is why I'm trying to edit on my ibook and then burn.

I hope this is not a stupid question. I'm not sure if this kind of interface is at all possible and I hope you guys can help me out.

Yeah, you'll need to put the iMovie into iDVD, create the DVD as you'd like it, and go into File->Save as Disc Image. The resulting file (it usually takes a hell of a lot of time to create it, I warn you) will then burn on the PC.

Are you au fait with burning disc images on the PC? There should be an option on your DVD writing app to do it, I use Nero 7 and it has this option there, and I think most others will too.

I think the disk image would be in .DMG format, but inside of the image should be a 'Video_TS' folder which includes all of the DVD information. If iDVD does make the disk image a .DMG file (which a Windows PC can not easily read), to get the DVD folder (Video_TS) out of the disk image and onto your PC you need to extract the files from the .DMG file because the PC can't read it. Extract the 'Video_TS' folder from the disk image you created and somehow transfer it to your PC (Maybe over a network) which will know how to burn 'Video_TS' (DVD) files, most burning programs can do this easily.

Keep in mind that the process will take a while and the disk image and folder can be as large as 4.3 gb! Good luck!

It doesn't create a .dmg file, it creates a .img file, which I believe is natively read by Windows. I'm willing to be corrected on the latter point, but I'm pretty confident that you'll be fine with it.

I tried to do that in past .. the best option is to convert DMG to ISO ..

Whoops my bad. Well if Windows can't read it you can still extract it like I said before.
