My Dad just got a new HDTV and it's awesome. I managed to download some of the HD movie trailers from Apple's page onto my intel iMac using QuickTime Pro and I was wondering if there is any way to burn the HD content onto a DVD for showing on my Dad's HDTV (Without wiring my iMac to it)

Keep in mind that I think our progressive-scan DVD player only does the 480p (or maybe it's 480i I can't remember) resolution and doesn't "up-scale" or anything (at least it doesn't say it does), I was just wondering if such a thing was possible, even if I had to use Toast or something. I just wanted to test some things out. All I have to work with is iMovie HD so I'm not going to run out and buy DVD Studio Pro or Final Cut pro just for this little test.

So...any ideas? Thanks :D

Without a DVD player that can output at HD res., and without hooking the iMac up, no, there is no way (using a DVD).

Thanks for the quick reply. Oh well, I guess the "Large" version of QuickTime movies are fine to play around with. Unless I find a 100 foot long DVI cable for the TV :p haha ;)

Sorry for it not being what you want to hear... :) The DVD player can only output into as high as its made to output - standard definition in your case.

Well I mean the DVD is progressive scan and has the HD component cable output to my DVD. DVDs look pretty good when playing on the HDTV, especially recent ones like Star Wars. But, it's ok for now, I tried to make a little DVD but, it was too much trouble, it would be smarter to wait to see it on TV :p
