Is there a way to somehow plug the iPad (USB-C) to the MacBook Pro via the MBP USB-A or Thunderbolt 2 ports purely for charging? (not needing data transfer).

All you need is a USB-C to USB cable.

Don't forget, charging with a laptop will always be slower than a direct power source!

Excellent! Do you know roughly what would be the wattage? I'm guessing the port is either 1A or 2A at 5V so probably 5W or 10W?

The iPad charger is 18W for comparison.
